BORGO PORTA NOVA IN VICENZA: a laboratory district to express the unexpressed
This page was born from an initiative of the Gabbiani & Associati architecture firm which has its headquarters in Porta Nova, a historic residential district, almost in the center of the city of Vicenza, which retains its mixed structure, with neighborhood shops, offices, services and large spaces waiting to be used for events and activities of various kinds.
With its wide streets, along which there are buildings designed by great architects (such as Andrea Palladio, Baldassarre Longhena, Francesco Muttoni, Bartalomeo Malacarne, Giorgio Massari, Carlo Scarpa, Ottone Calderari), it is an ideal place to live within the walls of Vicenza, behind Corso Fogazzaro, with courtyards and green spaces that open up between the regular blocks that constitute it.
Despite its quality, it is today under-used and penalized by the partial emptying of some large structures such as the barracks, the convent of San Rocco, the former fair, when it could instead be a vital node between the west areas of the city and the Old Town.
